First, RADICAL DESERT is taking connectivity LOCAL deploying site and area specific network solutions.  Second, utilizing the public and private fiber runs the Coachella Valley and High Desert do have, wirelessly extend the reach of the in ground broadband capacity to enterprises and residences across the entire region. Serving clients broadband capacity beyond the lit main corridors by utilizing proven best in class fixed wireless point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radio and laser network equipment and protocols.  Third, we work with business, Municipal, Civic and State leaders to collectively extend broadband capacity to the previously unserved areas of the Coachella Valley and High Desert in a timelier and cost-effective way than deploying fiber.  Fourth, we support a valley wide digital literacy program to ensure that the newly onboarded and online members of our society can take full advantage of the power a gigabit network provides.  Finally, the RADICAL DESERT network backbone is self-sustaining with solar power and battery backup, ensuring the RADICAL DESERT NETWORK is reliable and resilient, with or without the electric grid or the World Wide Web. 

1. Cloud services are remarkable and for the most part do what they claim, save us all time and money by up sourcing the computing and data storage needs for most if not all business transactions.   The flipside is we as a society have become completely dependent on our internet and cloud service providers whoever they are, wherever they are.   As critical as access to our data and protection of our digital information has become, the concept of this mass outsourcing leaves us uncomfortably exposed to cyber threats and mass outages with zero contingency or recourse.  With today’s technologies this does not need to be the case.

RADICAL offers an alternative to the nameless faceless purveyors of the internet and instead brings 24/7 local care and pointed client services to this digital relationship.  Starting with our proximity based custom-built gigabit network residing on the client’s side of the World Wide Web, we bring data controls and access closer to our clients, while offering industry specific services catered to each client’s needs.  

It’s no longer the Coachella Valley and High Desert getting only what the telcos offer, it’s the Coachella Valley and High Desert getting what it needs and wants. 

2. RADICAL DESERT’s internet backhaul capacity is provided from our Palm Springs PoP’s and other strategic fiber access points throughout the Coachella Valley and High Desert.  The redundant access points of the RADICAL network are linked via fiber as well as wirelessly from point-to-point or point-to-multipoint millimeter wavelength radios and laser links installed on existing roof tops, power and light poles, and radio towers. 

Much like rooftop solar creates distributed power production array by array, point-to-point wireless installations distribute the private network broadband signal to where it is needed quickly and efficiently.  By design, RADICAL’s wireless network is installed subtly within the architecture and context of the buildings and targeted commercial and residential areas we serve.

The range and proximity of our radios allows our network to be extended to serve adjacent and outlying under and unserved residential areas of the community as well.  As such, the RADICAL hybrid business and enterprise client network serve as the “middle mile” providing broadband infrastructure to the otherwise isolated residences.

1. The underserved and not served neighborhoods of the Coachella Valley and High Desert, aka the last mile areas, have been neglected by the national telcos based on their inability to recoup the infrastructure investment needed to provide service. Our hybrid network circumvents the need to dig up streets and our communities’ reliance solely on monopoly / duopoly telcos.  We offer new broadband access while significantly reducing the time and cost needed to provide services.

Utilizing strategic network locations that are already in place like rooftops and municipal streetlights we seamlessly and sustainably provide broadband where needed without the major infrastructure construction time and expense.  This holistic network approach serves municipal, business, and residential areas with the least amount of negative impact while providing balanced societal broadband.   As a digitally connected and literate residential community benefits the adjacent businesses and vice versa.

With RADICAL DESERT’s network significantly reducing the time and cost needed to reach those on the wrong side of the digital divide, the opportunity to extend monthly service fee aid is increased exponentially.  Together, as community leaders, we can solve the elusive digital divide, in a fraction of time and cost, with all stakeholders’ best interest in mind.

4.   While we at RADICAL celebrate all the power of true broadband, we are firmly rooted in the belief that life is not about the internet and certainly not the current top-down internet that treats us all as nameless users and targeted consumers. The internet is to help us communicate, to process on scale, to share information, to cure, to entertain and more…  But it is also about creativity and learning which leads to increased opportunity.

5. The RADICAL DESERT network is here to serve the Coachella Valley and High Desert.  It is built for the desert, in the desert, to be a true community asset.  And while the connection to the World Wide Web is a significant function of the network, remaining independent and freestanding should the Web face major outages is also of critical importance.   As such, RADICAL utilizes local, private, data centers and network nodes that are independent from the WWW and the electric grid, assuring that the community’s network will not only be independent but resilient and self-reliant as well.
